As well as planning for where to stay in Sydney, you should also consider the wealth of things to do, including experiences and tours you can book, to enrich your overall stay.

Things to know before travelling to Sydney

Best time to visit Sydney – In my opinion, the best time to travel to Sydney is around October-November or March-April. The climate is still warm in these times of the year and you will avoid the summer holiday period for the local Sydney population.

Pack a broad mix of clothes – Sydney is a highly diverse area with a vast variety of things to do and see, such as walking adventures, restaurants and beaches, which therefore each require a suitable type of attire. You must also consider that the climate in Sydney is subtropical all year round, meaning it fluctuates consistently from dry to wet periods. Plan appropriately for all of this.

Cost to travel – I highly recommend you set yourself a strict, yet flexible budget when travelling to Sydney. The cost of living expenses in Sydney, and therefore the cost for travellers is highly expensive.

Book accommodation well in advance – Sydney is a highly visited and tourist city, whereby accommodation in most popular places can book out well in advance. Hostels in particular for backpackers in Sydney can be booked out for many months ahead. Plan your stay in Sydney well in advance to ensure you get to stay at your preferred choice of hotel.

Transport in Sydney – Sydney has a great transport network in place, offering a variety of ways to get around, including trains, buses, trams and even ferries. Consider getting an Opal Card for easy and cost-effective access to all modes of public transport.
